What is implementation?

Implementation is the process that aims to translate outlined recommendations from Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) and Health Technology Assessment (HTA) to the daily clinical practice and it helps with decision making.
The Institute of Evaluation in Health Technology - IETS, through the department of Implementation and Dissemination (I & D), facilitates implementation of evidence from CPG and HTA. Its anticipated, strategic, active, inclusive, directed, and planned labor is mainly worked up with actors from the General System of Social Security in Health.

Since is not enough to elaborate CPGs or ETES with the most refined methodologies and the most suitable groups to achieve a favorable impact on the quality of health services, IETS gives support to carry out this type of work. There is a gap between evidence-based recommendations and clinical practice even in countries that have been using evidence-based medicine for a long time. For example, in studies conducted in the late 1990s in the United States and the Netherlands, adoption of CPG recommendations ranged from 21% to 61%, even for unequivocally interventions that led to better clinical outcomes such as the use of warfarin in atrial fibrillation or beta blockers in acute myocardial infarction.
